Comparing the Subaru Forester & the Honda CR-V

When choosing among compact SUVs, you will find that you have quite a few choices available. While having options is great, it can sometimes be challenging to know precisely which of those vehicles will be right for you. The best thing you can do is to compare the features that are available with the SUVs and consider what you will need from an SUV. The Subaru Forester and the Honda CR-V are likely two names that you know and have been considering. It’s time to get a better look at how they stack up to one another.

How Does the Honda CR-V Compare?

Let’s look at some of the stats and specs of the CR-V to see what it can offer. While the Honda CR-V has good mileage, when you compare it with the Forester, you will find that the base model offers 27 mpg in combined driving. The Forester does a bit better in this regard. The CR-V has 40.1” of headroom and 41.3” of legroom in the front seat.

The base model of the CR-V has only a small screen and no navigation, Android Auto, or Apple CarPlay. They are only available on the higher trims, and even then, the only screen size available on the higher trims is 7”.

Why is the Subaru Forester a Good Choice?

The Forester features a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that can offer 812hp and 176 lb.-ft of torque. All-Wheel Drive is standard with the vehicle, and it features a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The vehicle can offer 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway for 29 mpg combined. This is more than the CR-V, and even though it might seem like only a small difference, the savings can certainly add up over time.

Those who want to have a bit more legroom in the front seats will find that the Forester can offer two more inches than the CR-V. When you look at the overall cargo space with the second row folded, you will find that the Forester has 76 cubic feet of cargo space. This is the same amount of cargo space as the CR-V.

The Forester features a standard 6.5” infotainment screen on the Base, Premium, and Sport trims. The Limited and Touring models feature an 8” screen, which is also an option for the Sport. The Android and Apple CarPlay are available standard on all of the trims.

While the Honda CR-V has a lot of good qualities, the Subaru Forester has it outmatched in several ways.

What’s Right for You?

Although both of these vehicles have a lot to offer and they do compare favorably with one another, there are a number of the “little things” that tend to stand out more with the Forester. It’s an excellent pick for your next or first compact SUV. You can be sure that it is a reliable option that looks great, is safe, and is fun to drive.
